What effect did Thorin giving him the suit of mail have on Bilbo and his attitude toward the current situation?
Well, on pg. 204 in my book, Bilbo made the comment that he "felt magnificent", but then he said that " I look rather absurd." So in a way he was thankful that Thorin and the rest of the dwarves had given him a gift, but acted as though it was his looks that mattered the most. [spoiler]

Page 240, Bilbo says "I feel magnificent" he thought; "but I expect I look rather absurd. How they would laugh on the Hill at home! Still I wish there was a looking glass handy.""
I think Bilbo is gaining more confidence in himself, and he's trying to stay down to Earth, I guess you could say?, but he still knows that he's the one who's saving them.

Well it seems like to me that he likes it but his Hobbit-ish side sort of gets on him for being outside of the norm and on page 240 (in the little green book) he says he looks 'Rather absurd'.

On page 240 in my book it says that Bilbo "felt magnificent" so I think that it made Bilbo have a little more self confidence because after Thorin gave it to him, he knew that he appreciated Bilbo. (:

On page 259 it talks about the history of the coat- "... wrought for some young elf- prince long ago and how it is mrade of silver- steel." Then he says that he felt marvelous but probably looked rather absurd. He wasn't used to wearing that style of clothing. Even though he didn't neccessarily like the coat he knew that he fit in with the rest of the dwarves.

On page 238 in my book Bilbo says "I feel MAGNIFICENT....but I expect i look rather absurb" I think he felt honored to get the suit but didnt really wasnt to show that he was too excited so thats when he said he looked absurb.
