I agree with you Eric, Thorin did overreact. I am not in the Pre-a-P class but I have read the book
ya i guess he is overreacting a bit but look he thinks that is all he has left of his family it was his familys tresure and if he was willimg to give his life for one stone than it must mean alot alot alot to him!!

Yes he definitly over reacted, but like Bilbo said earlier in the book Thorin valued the Arkenstone more than a river of gold.
