On page 294 in the big-ish black book, when Bilbo hands over the Arkenstone of Thrain it mentions that Bilbo, "not without a glance of longing, handed the marvellous stone to Bard." Even though Bilbo could have easily kept the stone for himself, he gave it away for the good of the others. If one out of every five people on Earth were willing to something similar to this on the same scale, what kind of impact do you think would be born from this? What major issues could be resolved?
