Mail?

What does it mean by "Coat of mail"? MAIL? What do you think that means, or is there a form of "mail" that fits that situation?

Hahah you weren't there when Mrs. Sanders explained this, obviously.
It's like... this...

It's the armor they used back in like, medieval times, when they jousted and stuff.
Well, I'm not sure if jousted is a word, but you get it.

It means like a coat of armor...

On page 273 in the little green books, the Elvenking is talking to Bilbo and he says,

"You are more worthy to wear the armour of elf-princes than many that have looked more comely in it."

Then on page 231, it says,
"...coats of mail gilded and silvered and impenetrable"

An envelope isn't really all that impenetrable.

I'm guessing its a coat that is pretty much made of steel because on page 215 in my book it says, "It was of silver-steel, which the elves called mithril, and with it went a belt of pearls and crystals."
