When Bilbo is trying to figure out how to open the door he wishes and thinks that maybe Gandalf will come back. Do you think Gandalf will return? In chapter 9 it says," Little did they know the wizard had heard of their capture by the wood elves and was on his way back to find them". Yet he hasn't shown back up yet? Will he come back in time or only after the dwarves have defeated Smaug?(thinking positively)

I think Gandalf will return to help Bilbo and company finish what they have started.

I hope that he does come back so that the dwarfs can give him a piece of their minds!! He left for no reason and I ask if hes a "all powerful wizard" why would he be scared?! If you were Gandalf would you leave them to fend for themselves or would you help them?! I would help them but thats just me!!

I think that only if Bilbo has given up all hope to open the door, then Gandalf will probably return.
