OK so do you think Bilbo played it smart when he didn't give away his real name? If you were in Bilbo's place would you have been that fast to improvise on what to say, what would you have done in the "heat" of the moment?

I wouldn't have told him my real name because that may make him want to kill me even more than he already!!!

I think it was smart of Bilbo to not tell Smaug his name, but I still don't understand why he couldn't I'm going to honestly say if I were in Bilbo's position I would most likely be dead by now...
I think that if I really wanted to confuse Smaug, i could think of something, but I'm not nearly as lucky as Bilbo appears to be.

Bilbo actually did use his name, if you count titles as a name (which I do). Everything was true, the whole thing was who he is. And I remember somewhere, in some book or movie, that if you gave away your name to a person, they could use it to kill you. *thinks for about 20 seconds the dialogue" I think it was Eragon... the book trilogy that really doesn't have a third book (yet, I hope), but I digress. (Not my word, but I thought I'd us it.) I'd die if I was in Bilbo's position.

To me, it didn't make a difference wether he told him his name or not. I mean, Smaug didn't even know what a hobbit was... I guess it was smart, playing it safe and all.

He did play it smart by saying that, cause on page 223, it says " ...,if you don't want to reveal your proper name (which is wise)," If I were in his position, I would've given some really dumb fake name. Like Jorge or Agatha Crinklebottom or something. Yay me.
