well I don't think so because he seems like, and this is just me but he seems like aclumsey kind of guy and also if there was someone who happened to look and see him, well that would stink but no I don't think he could!

well it was darka nd he seems pretty smart so yeah I think so at least... I think the ring's really helpful though- for safety precauseions because he never could have saves them twice without it.

He would be locked up with the dwarves if he didn't have the ring, and even if he didn't get locked I don't think that there is any way that he could have snuck around without getting caught. (:
