Uhm.
I get Gandalf's plan and what not to bring the dwarves to Beorn.
But... I'm a little puzzled about why.

Well it says that if the dwarves hadn't come in such a fasion, he would have sent them all away; it's on page 124, paragraph 2.

Well, it was probably so that he wouldn't have altogether unloaded onto beorn the fact that he needed shelter, food, and provisions for a wizard, a hobbit, and 13 dwarves.
