I would have killed him. Well, no, not really. I'm not much of a "DIE!" person anyways. I still think Bilbo should have killed Gollum though because Gollum is worse off without his ring. He's better off dying rather than being all alone. He SHOULD get killed by a goblin but in Lord of the Rings, he's still alive. Bilbo should have killed him though.

Actually, that's kind of a good point. Because the goblins are obviously going to find Gollum now, so why not just kill him quick before the goblins get him and like, torture him and eat him and stuff? And if they don't find him right away, he'll have to live his life in constant fear that he'll get found. So, maybe he should've killed him.

I'm gonna have to agree. Gollum is going to be constantly afraid that the goblins are going to come kill him. More than he already is, anyways. It would have been kinda nice for Bilbo to kill Gollum, I guess putting him out of his misery.
That really is a good point. Gollum did say that he wanted to kill Bilbo, thats why Gollum was looking for the ring in the first place. Bilbo should have just killed Gollum, because now they are looking for him because they heard him screaming.
Killing a creature in his own environment would have been a risky move. It is not like a video game where you get another chance if your surprise attack doesnt work out. Judging by what we know about Golloum, I doubt he is going to give up without a fight. He sneaks up on and kills the food he eats. Bilbo shops at the neighborhood Target. Plus he smokes all the time and probably has decreased lung capacity.

Well, he was overwhelmed with pity. And it wouldn't have been a fair fight if he killed while invisible. Anyway, real men fight with their fists. Not with magical rings and swords.

You cant kill Gollum! He's sooooooo fabulous! I love Gollum, plus he's a really important character later on. Tolkien can't just be like, "Oh, I wanna kill Gollum" when Gollum is important. Just like J.K. Rowling can't kill Harry or Ron or Hermoine!
