Eventually through the many trials, the goal of the journey is achieved. This is the ultimate boon. The boon may be finally gained after a battle with the ultimate villain or a particularly difficult last trial.
What is Bilbo's ultimate boon for this person? Was there a stated goal of his quest? If so, has it changed? Has Bilbo learned more or less than he expected? What are his rewards?

I think it's when the travelers finally get the treasure. It was the goal of the journey to do so, and was achieved after the lake-mens battle with Smaug. The quest changed slightly because of the Battle of Five Armies, but his reward was the treasure they had sought after.
"But we have never forgotten our stolen treasure.......we still mean to get it back, and to bring our curses home to Smaug-if we can." p. 25 So they planned to regain their treasure and although they didn't kill Smaug he was slayed too.
