The hero is rescued from a final plight from an unexpected source. The rescuer may be someone who had previously abandoned the hero or even someone the hero does not know.
Does Bilbo ever need to be rescued from his journey? Does his guide/mentor help him?

I guess the eagles could be the rescue from without because Bilbo doesn't really know them and they give Gandalf and Thorin & Co. some advice. Would getting the ring be somewhat of a rescue from without? Or would that be a tailsman?
