Gandalf's Choice

confused.gif I know that Bilbo was Belladonna Tooks son, but if Gandalf's been traveling as much as people say he has, he must have know some more promising people. Do you think Gandalf had any other reason or method for choosing Biblo?

He probably saw that he had some of the took side in him waiting to come out or he just hade a hunch that he would help the dwarves more than he would.

Maybe he chose Bilbo as his burglar because he saw some kind of potetial in him that no one else saw,and Bilbo needed some adventure also.matrixfight.gif

I agree with what Lindsay said. Since Gandalf is this high and powerful wizard or what not, then he's obviously pretty special. So, I think that he realized that once on the adventure, Bilbo would start to have more of a "Took side" and be helpful to the dwarves when they nedded him.

Maybe there's some sort of history Bilbo doesn't know about, that made Gandalf choose him.

Gandalf probably had another reason for choosing Bilbo on the quest for the treasure, and that reason being was that he knew that Bilbo could overcome great obstacles. jawdrop.gif

I think even Gandalf has had his doubts about Bilbo's suitability. I bet he thought he would be more like The Old Took but he turned out not to be. Actually, i can't see how he's been helpful at all so far! He's dragging the others down with all his problems!

Well maybe his parents were kinder that some he's met, and I'm pretty sure that not too many hobbits married fairies and they kind of needed a hobbit so he'd fit...

I think Gandalf has a history with the Tooks and that he might have some plan where Bilbo is a key component. And in the beginning, Gandalf and Bilbo seemed to be friends.
