Do you think the interaction with the enemy (on page 272 and 273) was a bad idea on Bilbo's part? I would not be able to do something like that.... and on pg 273 and 274, I didn't really get why Gandalf congradulated him. I mean, he betrayed his friend, and why shouldGandalf show up all of a sudden just now?
