A balance of trasures

On page 240( in the book with the river and Gandalf on the front) Thorin says," For the Arkenstone of my faher is worth more than a river of gold in itself, and beyond that price to me." If this is Thorin's outlook on the treasure why do you think that he hasn't just asked for the Arkenstone and divided the rest among the others? Do you think this makes him greedy? Do you think he is entittled to all the biggrin.giftreasure? What about the men of armies should they get any??
