First of all, I know that Thorin and Co. were placed in empty wine barrels at the end of Chapter 9, but I am posting it here because we learn about most of their journey at the beginning of Chapter 10. My question is: If they were on a river floating away, wouldn't they all get seperated? Rivers have tributaries that go off all over the place, so how come they werent seperated?

I'm pretty sure this is one huge flowing river that doesn't get seperated at all (until later, I think). I also remember something about later on it was a barrel-raft.
