I think he knew of the events that already happened, because I think he has very good people to tell him of news, (Probably birds). He may be a powerful wizard, but I don't think he is powerful enough to know the future.

I think he has a prety good idea aboutt he future but he doen't KNOW what's gooing to happen. I also think that gandalf has ALOT of pressing buisness and all (being a wizard) and he would help if he could but he can't.
