I would probably also stick with Bilbo he has really good luck and when he puts his mind to it he can really come up with a plan. I know this is for chapter nine but [spoiler] in chapter 10 and the end of nine where he finds a way to escape. that was pretty creative and it wasn't all just luck!

I would probably say that the most powerful leader in the group would have to be Gandalf. The reason being is because he is the most wise and always knows what to do when in need of help. He is their guide and their protecter,I do not think the group can survive without Gandalf.

Well, Bilbo is probably going to be one of the best leaders for the group, but I also think that Thorin will assist Bilbo like he did with Gandalf. Like everyone else said Bilbo is the burglar and Gandalf did lay all of it on Bilbo, and he has been right about almost everything so I would have to go with Bilbo/ Thorin.

Honestly, if the question is "the most powerful", then Gandalf (the WIZARD) would be the best. I need not list all of his qulifications as the best leader (that include SAGACIOUSNESS, experience, etc.). I DO on the other hand, believe that the group will succeed with Bilbo as their leader. Whether their goal changes or remains the same, they will achieve whatever the group sets out to do. Bilbo is growing wiser and more experienced each day, and if he continues being adventurous (if he lives) he will become Short Gandalf, but even though Bilbo is the main character/hero he wouldn't be the most powerful. (Of the group now though,(not including Gandalf),Bilbo would definetely be the greatest of them all. )
