The ring...

biggrin.gifOk, so people are asking whether or not they think the ring has more behind it than just turning invisible,
and Gandalf was like "Yes, it's very powerful".

WELL
Bilbo's having all of this "luck", getting the dwarves rescued and getting himself rescued and being in the right place at the right time,
I think maybe the ring has something to do with that luck?
Maybe it turns you invisible AND makes you really lucky or something?

Hah well, just thinking.

Er, no. He was lucky before he found the ring. Actually, luck is what brought him to find the ring.

I think the ring would have something to do with it but not much because I think he's had it with him the whole time ven before the ring.

Hmm. I'm sure the ring really is SUPER powerful but I don't know if the ring is causing good luck, because if it was CAUSED, then it wouldn't really be luck, would it? He wouldn't actually be LUCKY, he would just have good luck planned for him.... does that make sense?

I neve really thought of theat but I think you might be right he has an extreme amount of luck and it started as soon as he got the ring so ya it might make him lucky matrixfight.gif

I think that he already had luck to start out with, because he was lucky enought to find the ring. Bilbo also is smart and will just think of the right thing to do in the last second, like with the spiders, or when he jumps on the barrel.matrixfight.gif

He was so lucky thats why found the ring.

I totally agree with you, Chad! Gandalf has been saying all along that there was more to little Bilbo than met the eye. Add to that a little luck and you've got yourself a hero.

"There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself." (p. 23 in my book)

"I am sending Mr. Baggins with you. I have told you he has more about him than you guess, and you will find that out before long." (p. 150 in my book)

I think that he ws already a little lucky before he got the ring because, like holly said he was lucky in finding the ring but the ring packed a double whammy and made him very lucky.

i think the ring, once you put it on it becomes like a part of you or something.I don't think Bilbo would be able to survive without it.dead.gif

I don't think the ring gives him any luck.
It says all throughout the beginning and basically the whole book that he was lucky.
The ring doesn't really have anything to do with that.
And being in the right place at the right time, well that's just the story working out the way Tolkien wants it too.
