The spiders age plays a small role because if it's old than it might bight softer because it isn't as strong as the young ones. As for it's size it is a fictional story so does it really matter?

-It would be slow and painful!! I would totally freak out!!I hate spiders to begin with, but these *HUGE* spiders would make me scream twice......four times as loud!! -They may have a spell to make them that big!! A wizard may have put a spell on them forever ago and it hasn't worn off!!
