Okay so I was a little bit confused in Chapter 5. When Gollum is talking to himself he calls himself Gollum and my preciousss. I understand that he is talking to himself, but is Gollum his good side or evil side? Or does it not really matter and the author is just trying to show us that he is lonely?? I'm kind of confused... Okay I think that is all!!!

Well he calls himself my precious because he's lonely and he is very concided(i think that how you spell it). I don't think Gollum has a bad side; i think he's a good creature.

I'm pretty convinced Gollum suffers from schizophrenia. There's Smegal and there's Gollum. He talks to himself because there is no one to talk to. Isn't that sad?

I think it's like, he talks to himself so he's kind of talking back to himself; I don't think there's a good or evil side, he's just talking back to himself. He's jus reeeeeaaallly lonely.

I DO that Gollum is maybe the BAD side of himself and that My Precious is what Gollum feels is his better side. I think this is the case because whenever he gets mad when something goes wrong, he's always like, GOLLUM! He get's all mad at that side of himself, but not at his precious.

I would most definitely say that he is lonely, I felt so bad for Gollum that he just lives all by himself where there is no one to talk to besides his "precious". It's like that kid [you know the one] that sits all by his/her self and reads at lunch...do THEY talk to themselves?
